Ashen Gate

They won't survive. Make sure they escape. A dark-fantasy last-stand tower defence in which you cannot win — you hold the last standing city while a recovered portal spell opens, and push as many souls through it as you can before the dark comes over the wall.

About

The heart of it.

The world has already fallen. Ashen Gate opens on the last city still standing — not because it is special, but because it is last. Its mages have dredged up an unproven portal spell, the Rite, said to open onto safe ground. You are the governor who stays behind to hold the wall while the terrified stream through. Survival was never on the table. Every run ends with the city falling; the only variable is how many got out.

There are no waves and no build phase — an intelligence with infinite bodies never pauses. It probes your wall, learns what hurts it, and sends more, in escalating Tides. You answer with six unit types across four sectors, reading where the next blow lands and committing to it with two taps. Your people are your income, your health bar, and your score in one number: keep them and grow rich, or send them through the Rite and grow your rescue count. Every citizen is a worker or a point — never both.

Ashen Gate — the words ASHEN GATE beside a circular city wall and a violet portal, enemies converging from the dark
Hold the wall. Save who you can. Let the rest go.

Features

A last stand, not a victory lap.

I.

You cannot win

Defeat is the premise, not the failure. The city always falls, and the maths enforces it — which frees every run to be about one honest question: how many did you save?

II.

No waves, only the tide

A stream that never stops, only thickens. Intensity climbs in Tides and punctuates in telegraphed Surges — read the glow on the sector it will hit, and commit under pressure.

III.

Keep them, or send them

Gold scales with the people you keep; your score comes from the people you send away. Feed the Rite with Souls harvested from the fallen, and buy your escape with your own survivability.

IV.

Six lines, twelve fates

Levies, Shieldguards, Reavers, Crossbowmen, Pyromancers, Stormcallers. Units die and stay dead; at level ten each line takes an irreversible specialisation that changes how it fights.

V.

Three factions, no lazy walls

Beasts swarm, the Undead grind through armour, the Eldritch break the rules — burrowing under your line, landing on your ramparts, out-ranging your wall. Late Tides mix them, and by then you must simply be ready.

VI.

Grown in-engine

Two modes — the fair fixed siege and the endless fall — plus a permanent meta tree for the long haul. Flat silhouettes on near-black, an optional ink-and-ember glow, and synthesised audio: no external art or music, all made in the engine.

In Action

The fall, screen by screen.
