About

The heart of it.

Most camera apps hand you a photograph and a pile of sliders afterwards. mutaLens turns that around. The filter runs on the phone's graphics chip as each frame arrives, so the whole viewfinder wears the look at thirty frames a second. You frame the shot you actually want, and the file matches the screen — no surprises in the gallery.

Nineteen filters ship with it, from a clean monochrome and a gentle fade through Noir, Sepia, Vintage, Cinematic, Golden and Vivid. Underneath each one sits an adjustment rail — strength, exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation and warmth — that works with whichever filter you have chosen, or with none at all, so correcting the light in a room never costs you the look you wanted. The same result applies to video, baked in as you record.

Underneath sits a proper camera: lens switching and zoom, aspect ratio, resolution and JPEG quality, flash, self-timer, tap-to-focus, exposure and a grid. The volume buttons work as a shutter or a zoom, whichever you prefer — steadier than tapping the glass. Hold either and it shoots a burst. After every shot a review screen offers keep, delete, share, or change the filter — with the untouched original kept beside the graded one whenever you ask for it.

It is also quiet about you. mutaLens has no network code at all: no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no servers. Photographs stay in your own gallery, and a location is written into one only if you switch geotagging on yourself.

Where things stand.

  • I.Status. In development. The camera, the filters, video, review, sharing and the gallery are all built and tested on real phones; release to Google Play comes next.

  • III.Price. Free, with the whole launch library of filters included. Themed filter packs are planned later as one-time purchases — never a subscription, and never at the cost of what you already have.
